Back to blog

On the 25th of November our lives got a little more scary and a held a lot more anticipation! Yes we may have ‘lightly’ mentioned it before but please forgive our excitement.  As a lowly bunch of musicians it’s pretty major to walk in to any Virgin Megastore in the UAE and see our hard work, our baby, our album sitting there on the New Release stand. In addition we found it dotted around Mall of Emirates Virgin branch in no less than 6 areas, including the listening stations, so you can wrap your ears around it before you buy. Cheers Virgin!

As well as in-store purchases, those of our friends who are back in our respective homes of Scotland and Canada as well as further afield can find it on iTunes, Apple Music and Anghami to name a few and lastly you can catch our music and studio videos of each featured song on our Vevo channel. You may have seen our review in The Gulf News or heard our tunes playing on the radio in our ad on Dubai 92 so there are no excuses. If you haven’t heard our album yet, then what are you waiting for? Get busy ;-)

Now aside from our album excitement, we are soooo happy to tell you that we will also be bombarding the stage at this year’s Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens again. It’s starting to feel a lot like home out there at the stadium at this time of year and we love working with the guys over at Promo Seven collaborating to bring some crowd pleasers and music relief to your sporty day!  You will catch our good friends Carl and the Reda Mafia on stage on the Friday and on Saturday we will be headlining the main stage at the end of the final night, closing the 2016 Rugby Sevens for another year!

Now once we have the Sevens safely in the bag we want to help thrust you in to the festive spirit and we decided the best way to do that when you live in a desert is to get back on stage at this year’s Winter Festival at Dubai Media City Amphitheatre.

However we weren’t quite sure whether a Winter Festival filled with Christmas markets, Christmas food and drink, carolers, kids choirs, pantomimes, Christmas crafts, a giant Christmas Tree, a snow park and artificial snow were quite going to be enough to get you all in the mood. That said we got our heads together with Turret Media who asked us to come up with an official Dubai Winter song. We decided that Christmas being Christmas we needed to rope in some unsuspecting kids and so that’s exactly what we did!

We came up with a Dubai School-based competition to provide lyrics to a UAE Winter song and we found some pretty great ideas in amongst the entries. Next up we collaborated those ideas with our own and headed back to SoundStruck Studios with a whole rabble of kids, tinsel, stockings and Christmas Cheer to boot. I’m not quite sure Elvis knew what he had roped himself in to once again, but he soon got his classic Elvis energy roaring and our festive track “Winter is Coming” (obvious nod to Game Of Thrones) was born!

After a week's worth of setting up the studio and pre-production, followed by individual instruments tracking, the day of recording the kids choir was finally here and turned out to be THE most fun. Aside from more or less turning SoundStruck Studios in to a temporary Santa’s Grotto, we got to fuel up on mountains of pizza and fun-size Mars bars for our festive vocal session.

One of the competition entries had the great idea of showcasing Dubai’s eclectic cultural tapestry and we LOVED that idea so we decided to utilize it.

The kids from Dubai Performing Arts school were able to showcase their amazing knowledge of language by singing their vocal lines in languages varying from German to Hindi, Swahili to Portuguese, Mandarin to Arabic and more so have a listen and see what other languages you can hear on the track. If you are attending the Winter Festival from the 8th to the 10th of December then you will have a chance to hear the song live when we hit the main stage nightly. We are really proud of our collaborative efforts and our hope is that it gives you the festive warm and fuzzies just in time for the big Red Mans visit!

So until our next Blog…See you from the stage!

Peace out!
