As the UAE music scene grows stronger, and develops
an international presence, The Boxtones are one of a handful of bands standing at the forefront.
Breaking away from the standard cover-band cut-out, the five-piece rock -pop band, known for their funky covers and original songs, have just been signed with Universal Music.
Formed in 2012, The Boxtones consist of Louise Peel on vocals, Gary Tierney on lead guitar and vocals, Gill Tierney on drums, Patrick Thibault on bass and Will Janssen on keyboard.
Will says the band are overjoyed at being signed, and looking forward to expanding. "We plan to tour our own material at festivals around the world, support other major artists, create professional music videos, record high-production audio...but to be honest, the best part of it for us is tying in with so many other Universal artists, and possibly working on collaborations."
Debut album 'In The Pockets of Clowns' has continuing success and after a mammoth 2014 - playing Yasalam Beats on the Beach, Middle Eastern Comic Con, Party in the Park, and Dubai Rugby Sevens last year - 2015 only looks to be even more exciting. From getting signed up to playing Taste of Dubai, Children of the Mountain charity ball, they'll be playing at this year's Comic Con too, and more, Will says: "We've only just signed the record deal, and we have plans of releasing plenty of material when the label and the band know that its ready."
They've been in the studio working on the next album, and aim to have the first single released by September. "The studio is where we'll be spending most of our time getting ready for the album release late in the year."
"We are aiming to release the first single in September, with perhaps one or two more before the album launches."
"For now, the gigging calendar is already filling up fast for us here in the region, watch this space!"
