Rock’n’rollers who are big in the Middle East
Take three Scots, two Canadians, a generous dose of rock’n’roll, put it all together in Dubai and you have The Boxtones. The band started in 2005 from a serious case of wanderlust.
“My brother and I were living in Edinburgh and I wanted to get out of the UK and travel,” says drummer Gill Tierney. “Louise, our current singer and now my brother’s fiancée, was also keen to travel and play music. So the three of us started working six nights a week in five star hotels all over the world”.
The band has played from Macau and Hong Kong to Abu Dhabi. “In February 2013 we decided to start our own company, The Boxtones FZE,” says Gill. “The company allows us to make a living through corporate work across the Middle East, as well as further our original music career”.
The band released their debut album ‘In the Pockets of Clowns’ this year. Now, they just need the world to hear it.
“We have upcoming tours planned including India, South Africa and the UK next year,” says Gill. “We want to help put Dubai on the music map and show that this region has a lot to offer”.
